How to Measure Your Yacht Mattress for Custom Fitted Sheets

March 06, 2026

One of the most common frustrations for yacht owners and crew is bedding that just doesn't fit. Standard retail sheets are made for rectangular home mattresses — they have no idea what a v-berth, island queen, or radius-corner mattress looks like. Here's how to get it right the first time.

Rectangular Mattresses If your mattress is a straightforward rectangle, you need three measurements: length, width, and depth. Measure the depth all the way to the bottom of the mattress, not just the top layer. A fitted sheet that's too shallow will pop off constantly — especially in rough seas.

V-Berth Mattresses A v-berth tapers toward the bow, so you'll need more than just length and width. Measure the widest point, the narrowest point, the length along both sides, and the depth. If the two sides aren't equal in length, measure both separately. Our custom fitted sheets for v-berth mattresses are made from your exact measurements so every corner sits flush.

Island Queen & Radius Corner Mattresses Island queens are wider than standard queens and often have rounded or angled corners. For these, measure length, width, depth, and the radius of each corner. If corners are angled rather than rounded, measure the length of the angled cut.

Tips for Accurate Measurements

  • Always measure the mattress itself, not the old sheet
  • Measure twice before ordering
  • For odd shapes, a paper template traced around the mattress edge works perfectly
  • If you're in South Florida, we offer dockside measuring visits — just contact us

Once you have your measurements, head to our custom fitted sheets page and enter them directly into the order form. We'll cut and sew everything from scratch using premium Italian cotton sateen, typically shipping within 7–14 business days.
